Tour Overview

Overview

Rajasthan's Sawai Madhopur is known as Tiger Safari City. It was named after Maharaja Shri Sawai Madhosingh, who constructed it as a planned metropolis between 1751 and 1768.

Built on an Aravalli hilltop in the middle of the jungle, the beautiful Ranthambore Fort served as a hunting lodge for the Maharajas and other members of the royal family, giving rise to the name of the tiger reserve.

It is one of the best wildlife reserves in the nation for watching tigers, covering an area of 282 square kilometers. Whether this fantastic striped beauty is lying down in a water body, walking along a road, or simply relaxing in the early morning during a safari, it is easy to capture on camera.

Safari drives are permitted through the park's central section from October 1 to June 30 every year. The park's buffer area is open all year, even during the rainy season.

Depending on booking availability, you can explore the animals in an open gypsy or canter during the morning or afternoon shift. The reserve area is divided into ten safari zones or routes, and all the park's zones are accessible through the Ranthambore Tiger Safari booking service.

Due to the limited number of vehicles permitted entry per shift, it is advised to reserve safaris in advance for Ranthambore. The state forest agency is in charge of overseeing and managing every aspect of Ranthambore Safari reservations for Jeeps and Canters.

Important

Best Time To Visit

The park is most enjoyable in the winter, from October to March, when the weather is ideal, and you can witness the big cats engaging in a lot of daily activity. Peak winter temperatures can drop as low as three degrees.

Summer is also a great season for photographing. Since the bushes and grass have dried up by now, the jungle presents excellent chances for clear, sharp photographs. However, it can get very hot and humid, with highs of up to 47 degrees Celsius, making it challenging to go outside in the sun. Nonetheless, summer offers a good opportunity to see tigers because they are often spotted relaxing around water features.

Some areas in the buffer zone stay open, and the park's core region remains closed during the monsoon. There's plenty of drinking water available all around, lush grass or dense shrubs to provide cover for tigers to move about undetected, etc. Hence, the number of sightings is minimal during this season.
